HDTV - HD-Ready TVs, HD-Now and HD-Compatible
Yes, there is a difference, and that difference could mean a hidden expense you weren’t planning on. In this highly technical age we live in, people are buzzing about the newcomer, HDTV, and in the mix, some new terms are being tossed about with no clarification of meaning. In choosing the right TV for you, it might be helpful to become a little more familiar with a couple of terms, HD-Capable and HD-Ready.
Technically, all new TVs are HD-capable, which means that both are able to receive HDTV broadcasts. The difference lies in how each receives the broadcast. It is this difference that will determine whether or not you will be making an additional purchase.
HD-Compatible TVs are high definition displays with one or more built in NTSC TV tuners for reception of traditional analog TV signals. They must be connected to a separate HD source to reach their full potential. That separate source could be a box receiver that you will need to buy. Additional equipment will be necessary for these TVs to receive a high-definition signal.
HD-Now TVs are HDTV sets that incorporate HD-capable displays with a built-in HDTV tuner to receive over-the-air HD broadcasts. Also known as Integrated HDTVs, these TVs are the best choice for someone not wishing to make further investments in the form of a box to receive the HDTV signal.
Be sure to talk to one of our sales representatives about your entertainment needs and these options before purchasing your next TV if you are concerned about choosing the TV that will suit your needs most on a long term basis.
